Um, is this going to be a problem?

I finished the first sock pal sock! It took about a week of knitting time. I wasn't knitting anything else during this week, which should give you a sense of how much knitting time I have these days - not much!

But I am worried. It looks huge. Is it going to be too big for my sock pal??

Here it is compared to my standard ribbed sock. These socks both have the same yarn(Koigu), same needle size(2), same number of CO stitches(60). The only difference is that one has ribbing and the other does not.

The sock pal sock measures 8.5" inches around, unstretched, and my sock pal's foot circumference is 9". So this should be good, right? Even though it looks huge, it is really okay, right?

please say yes.

i think the sock will fit fine. your finished measurement is still smaller than the foot measurement. your first sock only looks skinny because of the ribbing. anybody would be thrilled to have handknit koigu socks! at worst, they become yarn art, decorating a wall, or bed socks --- but, i think they will decorate the recipient's feet instead ;)

Yeah, it will be fine. My Sock Pal's socks look "huge", at least that's what everyone keeps telling me. "Wow, does she have monster feet?" No! My feet are even wider than hers, what does that make *my* feet. We are so used to store-bought socks, which by the virtue of a fine-knit fabric and elastic (often) look like tiny little things. When I look at my anklets from the store, they look like they're made for babies, especially compared to the "huge" handknit socks my feet require :).

yeah, it'll be fine (keep your fingers crossed)!!!

my sockpal sock looks huge too. but i put it on, it doesn't look so bad. i always have trouble gauging how long to knit the foot. as i never know how much i should allow for it to stretch. hmm.

Stephanie:

I'm sure it will be just fine. Your sock looks so much skinnier b/c of the k2p2 ribbing. I know it will be wonderful and your sock pal will absolutely love it!

What a beautiful sock! And I'm sure they will be just fine. My green socks look huge compared to BF's ribbed ones, even though he's a size 10 and I'm a 7.5. Let a friend with a similar size as your sockpal try it on if you need to be really sure :)

jody:

sounds like they'll be a perfect size. and koigu for your pal -- i'm sure she'll love them!

Don't worry. I had the same worry when I finished the socks for my father. There is not pattern on the foot and it looked really big. But when I asked my husband to try it on (I assumed they had similar foot sizes!), he said it fitted well. So, it's just the visual that made us worry. Don't worry!

I agree with what everyone else said. It's the ribbing. You should be fine!

Gorgeous socks! Love the color... I'm bummed that we're not in the same group, because I know they won't be mine. The issue is definitely the ribbing, don't worry!

I think you'll be absolutely fine. The ribbing makes a huge difference. I have two pairs in my own wardrobe that are very similar, and they both fit fine.

Don't worry at all, they are lovely!

Dani:

I think the sock should work out fine. The ribbing stretches SO much, so maybe try to measure your ribbed sock all stretched out?

Its a beautiful sock... I love that colorway :)

Jenn:

I did the same OMG It's HUGE thing with my first pair of socks for my father. It had about the same amount of room as yours, and fit fine. Nice sock!

Your socks are lovely, I adore the picot edge. I have 1 question, did you use just 1 skein of Koigu for each of your socks? I'm knitting my sockapal2za's with Koigu and wonder how tall I can knit them without running low, I only purchased 2 skeins.

It looks perfect! I actually have the same big feet and have done ribbed and no ribbing...same situation. You are fine, I will love them! (if they are mine...)

Socks always look huger than actual feet. Unless they're teeny tiny ankle socks with pom poms.

Looksfine to me. Ribbed socks always look that skinny.

Briana:

That's funny - when I knit ribbed socks, people always ask who they're for (me, duh!) because they think they look so tiny. It's all about the ribbing and the stretch.
