An Introduction to Kidsilk Haze
The River Stole from Rowan 38 is underway, only a few days after the official KAL start.
This my first time working with Kidsilk Haze. It is a bit tricky, isn't it? The stitches really want to stick together. They are all best friends. And they are all practically weightless, just floating around, a couple of them bound to the needle, and the rest going about on their way. Maybe it will get easier as the scarf progresses and weighs more. So far its not my favorite yarn ever, but it is certainly challenging. I am reserving judgement on KSH for now... perhaps post-blocking it will be love.
Jody mentioned going down a couple needle sizes. This makes total sense, as the yarn overs are huge on this US size 10.5 needle.
I am using a 24" Addi Turbo needle. Something with a pointier tip might be better, but rampant laziness prevents me from going on an all-out needle search. Addi Turbo, its the choice of champions, not just the choice of those who happen to already own one in the necessary size. Just go with me on this one.

How funny you say that. Right now, my needle choice of champions are Clovers because I'm too lazy to look for my Addis.
KSH is a b*tch to work with at first, but the end results are amazing.

What a lovely color you chose. Is it aqua or more teal? I can't help you with KSH, but if it's anything like the yarn for the Rebecca wrap it might be worth finding some other needles. I did not enjoy that project on my addi turbos - too blunt for those slippery little stitches. I hope it gets easier as you go.

looks wonderful! i used that color for my fluffy cami from weekend knitting. you will get used to KSH soon enough. i knitted the butterfly with addi first, not good. i think denise interchangeable was a bit better for me.

Beautiful color choice, and very appropriate for a pattern named "River".

I had real problems with KSH the first time I used it. My stitches weren't so much best friends as little hellions who tried to run away from me. BUT, it does get way easier. You just have to get used to it. You'll figure out ways to make it more user friendly. And they don't need to include spending time getting diffent needles.
And to second everyone else, that is a excellent color choice.

I love the colour!
I haven't knitted with KSH myself, but by all accounts it is worth hanging in there- the results are amazing. (although I'd consider needle hunting if I was you- it may reduce the annoyance and frustration)

I'm making River in the same color, Trance. I got the yarn from joining Rowan's International Membership to make the froth scarf.
I'm using bamboo straight needles, which feels kind of weird. I think I should opt for a pointy needle, a circular needle that is.

I like how you always see the bright side of things. The stitches are best friends and the shawl/scarf is a challenge. I would probably be cursing about now yet I accept the fact that lace and I do not go together. The color is beautiful. BTW, have you seen the new Knitty? Some nice stuff this time around, finally.

I've also started my River and find that Clover Bamboo needles works well with KSH.

Such a pretty color! Great start so far.
I'm on the fence with this project (if I'll make it I mean) so I can't wait to see some finished ones.

KSH is a bitch to work with, I am using the same colour to make Branching Out... Love the "best friends stitches" line!

I am doing my first KSH project right now, and am definitely getting used to the stickiness of the yarn--the stitches are best friends. River is off to a nice start!

hi! i'm making river in trance, too. i've cast on and done some of the setup rows. i recently finished another rowan pattern, the birch shawl in KSH candy girl and got absolutely hooked on the silky mohair goodness! now i can't get enough of this stuff...am also working on butterfly in KSH majestic. will the madness never end??

p.s. i forgot to say, i'm using bryspun circs in US 10s and, while they're not as pointy as my sz 7 or 8 bryspuns, they're pretty good for this type of yarn.

hello! i just looked at the rowan 38 today. can you give me your opinion on how appropriate the patterns are for a person who is probably an "advanced beginner?" i know they include a skill scale. how accurate do you think that scale is? any observations would be helpful. laura.
