River, the extended version

Yes, River is only supposed to be 12 repeats. Mine is at 17 repeats, and I plan to keep on going until nearly running out of yarn. No yarn added to the yarn stash is a good thing!

I decided to knit River as an alternative to joining the shawl-knitting bandwagon. I was uncertain if I'd ever wear a shawl, though I'd love to knit one and probably will at some point. This looked like a happy medium, plus a good chance to try out Kidsilk Haze. The jury is still out about KSH, but this scarf/stole is going to be lovely. I tried it on last night, and its already a favorite. I can't wait for the weather to be cold enough to wear it!

The first ball of KSH got me through about 10 pattern repeats. if my calculations are correct, there's only 3 more to go!

I cannot for the life of me memorize this pattern repeat. I still move a little post-it note on the chart with every row! It must be non-memorizable, that's all there is to it.

i think by knitting it with smaller needles looks so much better and far more practical. i'm not a shawl person, i don't really wear shawls.

beauitful pattern! can't wait to see you wearing it!!

It's looking *quite* lovely, I hope you'll enjoy wearing it once it's all done!

This is looking just gorgeous, congratulations on getting this far, I think the design really pops on the smaller needles.

Adele:

Beautiful! What a fab colour! Can't wait to see this finished. I'm thinking about it myself.

I'm like you, wanna knit a shawl, don't wanna knit a shawl. I keep seeing them, craving them, then thinking I won't wear it. I don't have anyone that I could really gift one too either. Like you, I'll probably do on one day, but it has to be the right now.

What about Ene's Scarf?

If I were to make River, I would do the same thing you're doing... smaller needles and more scarf-like. It's lovely!

That is so loverly. Everything about it...the color, the size...wow!

Looks great!

Just memorize the first K# since it goes 3, 4, 5, 6, then 5, 4, 3, 2 and round and round it goes

that river stole is so pretty. can't wait to see the FO. and make sure that you are modeling the FO.. we want to see more than just the stole.

It's so lovely!

I'm so glad you're making it longer - I wanted to do that but I got too bored with the pattern. I'm looking forward to see it finished! And it looks beautiful, even unblocked!

It looks gorgeous, i love the colour.

With a color that lovely, I would knit forever! ;) I made a stole for my mom last year with some mohair that was the same color. So pretty and unique--you don't see it too often. Anyway, looks beatiful!

Hope you are having a good weekend.

(I just have to shout this time!) IT IS SOOOO LOVELY! The colour is gorgeous and I KNOW the feel of KSH is divine!

Dani:

I think women in their 20's and 30's are starting to realize that shawls are sort of practical in many ways... I for one, always associated shawls with older women, but am now falling in love with some of the more stylish, delicate looking ones. I LOVE river and hope to knit this sometime soon. I would choose the exact same color you did too :)

river is absolutely gorgeous diana!! i am in lust with your version. mine on the other hand is a sad excuse of a shawl that has already been restarted twice. i can't remember this shawl pattern either for some reason. i am starting to feel really daft!

dee:

It looks amazing... I have been thinking about knitting River too - but don't like KSH on fatter needles - your's looks perfect :)

It's beautiful.
That's the perfect color.

'Tis lovely! Hope the last three repeats fly off your needles and the weather cooperates. Doesn't Mother Nature know it's time for knitters to be wearing the products of our labors?

Oh my it is stunning. I want one too! But I am not sure that patterns where the repeat is too hard to memorise are a good idea. What's the colour?

PS: The second sleeve is very very nearly done so your turtleneck shrug is getting there. Last week was not a very knitterly week but I am planning to make sure that this one is.

Stephanie:

Oooh, so pretty. I can't wait until you finish it so I can see a modelled shot.

beth:

It is truly lovely! It looks like candy too! Just like Sweet Georgia!

Kim:

Hmm.......I like it on the smaller needles! Now I am looking at mine at row 32 and contemplating if I should frog it and restart with the smaller needles......very nice!
