Mostly Stockinette

A whole lot of stockinette is going on over here this week.

Figuring out a pattern for Hourglass v2.0 was an unsteady process that involved measuring myself and my storebought sweaters multiple times, but I think I've got it. Its going to be a negatively-eased garment, approximately 2 inches smaller than me. Seriously, everything I own is at least this small, so why not handknits? Plus, Purly says it will work, and Purly thinks about these things, so I am going with it.

Also, Cash Iroha grows and stretches over time. Though I did take this into account. So far, I've got part of the body and sleeve.

The sleeve comes with me onto the subway. I wonder if any of the commuters will notice when I wear the finished sweater...

The sweater looks great so far, I know you're enjoying the luscious Noro yarn. I agree with Purly - negative ease works for the modern silhouette, it just does!

I like hearing that negative ease is where its at because my orange with a hint of pink hourgalss has a slight negative ease. My gauge was a wee tight, and I opted for knitting a smaller rather than larger garmet. Who wants to wear a big sack (in public)?

Yes...negative for sure. I found out the hard way on this sweater and many other knits.

jess:

yes, good decision re: negative ease. My hourglass has stretched like a mother!

Jo:

I found your blog today through sweet georgia. I love the coloour of your hourglass, it's looking gorgeous! I agree with everyone, else negative ease is the way to go.

If you encounter the same subway riders everyday, they probably might I knit on the bus to and from work all the time and I think people who watch me wonder where all those knitted items go. I still haven't knit many things for myself.

I've the same thought too. And sometimes wonder if those on the same bus with me day in and day out realise the sweater I'm wearing is the one that was on the needles earlier on.

Adele:

It's looking great. I love the subtle changes in the green. Can't wait to see it finished. I like any raglan. And I'm intrigued about the 'in the round' factor which I've never done for a sweater.

I'm designing my own sweater right now too! Half way through the front. Like you, it constantly changes. It was raglan until I realized my cables screwed up the shaping. Great learning experience for sure.

Dana:

Pretty green! I will be v. curious to hear whether your fellow commuters notice when you wear the sweater! I bet they will, whether they say anything or not. Thanks too for your Fair Isle compliment. :)

Looking good! That green looks even better knitted up than it did in the skein. May I ask what type of needles you are using?

the sweater is so green and beautiful thus far! i also want to try out this yarn one day.

Stephanie:

It looks great. I think you'll be very happy with the negative ease (it worked great for me on Tivoli) and that green is divine.

caitlyn:

It looks great so far! I love the green -- it's a beautiful shade. I'm glad you figured out a pattern that works for you!

I realize almost everything I own has negative ease, but I can't bring myself to knit something lie that. I seem to be brainwashed by the size charts!

I can't wait to see this green sweater.

Love the color!! Gorgeous.

Aaaw, you linked to me again :)

If the negative ease doesn't work, feel free to blame any problems with this sweater on me.

But damn, that is a lovely green.

Ana:

It's hard to tell from the image you posted of the BR sweater but how is your design differing from the Hourglass pattern? No sewing on the edges? Intentially rolled ends? Do tell!

I'm hoping the whole E train will give me a standing ovation when I finally get my Rogue finished!

Dani:

I love it! So beautiful :) I can't wait to see how it fits :) I need to look back on your blog and find what you are changing from the original hourglass.
