Box Bags, A Short History

I made the first box bag on a quiet weekend this fall, following drago[knit]fly's tutorial. It was easier than expected, and ideal for storing sock knitting in progress.

I like using an invisible zipper, non-invisibly.. it makes for a nice clean look.

Then I made a couple for Christmas gifts. You've seen these before as bags for the Christmas shawls.

Looking kinda squished in this photo

And a few more to show a shop down the street to see if they would sell them.

The shop is going to try to sell my bags! Full box bag production is underway. I will bring them about 10 on Friday. Fingers crossed that they sell!

I think what I like about the bags is selecting the fabrics, linings, and zips.. playing with the patterns and colors. There are only so many things I can make for myself, or as gifts, so the idea of making items for sale is appealing because I can keep sewing, and keep creating things, trying out new fabrics and ideas that otherwise wouldn't have a purpose.

The design reminds me of my dad's shaving kit bag when I was a kid! I would happily buy one if I saw it in a shop - I love them!

mai:

fun! i need to make myself a few of these! :)

karen:

i'm a superfan of these lovely bags!! super glad you are selling em!

They are super cute! The ultimate sock knitting bag.

Nice bags! I can relate to what you're saying about enjoying the creative process, and then it's nice to be able to sell the items. Like you said, one can only make so many bags, etc. for oneself or for gifts. Good luck!

Have you thought about selling them on Etsy? Those bags are really nice. I'd love to purchase one, but you're not near me. :-)

Those are so great! I love your color choices. I'm dreaming here, but would love something like that in laminated fabric with a flop-over magnetic closure.

Anyway, congrats and I know you'll sell tons! What's the retail price going to be?

I love these bags! I can't wait to try and make one (as soon as I fix my sewing machine). Good luck!

Oh, I love these bags! You have a great collection of fabrics :) I know you'll sell a lot of them!

Love it! and yes, please share an ETSY link if you have one -- i have a strong desire to own one!

Those are stinkin' CUTE! I agree, if you don't already sell them on Etsy, you should consider it. And when you do, let me know!

Bev Adler:

I am so envious of the selection of fabric that you have. Do you buy on-line? All we have is Wal-Mart. And I agree. You should sell on Etsy.

atia:

wow love them! the colours are really cheerful too.

Stephanie:

I love those bags and like you, I love picking out the fabrics and the zippers. I also made some square ones (a cube, I guess) by modifying the dimensions. I have those measurements if you're interested. I'm sure they will sell like hot cakes. Good luck.

Christine:

I want the red stripey one!!!!

mari:

i just realized that you are blogging again... and i am so excited! i love all of your sewing and knitting projects and it's so great to see you blog! these box bags are fantastic - people will buy them up so quick!
