Sockalicious

I am beginning to feel a bit behind with progress for my Secret Sock Pal.

Lots of other members in the exchange have yarn, patterns, and a plan. Grumperina has conducted scientific tests regarding gauge and foot size. Carolyn is knitting socks at a remarkable rate to warm up. And Purly Whites is trying out patterns in practice socks to ensure sock perfection when it really counts.

I have .... a couple ideas and a fair amount of stashed sock yarn, none of which seems appropriate.

Also a factor is my serious stash of Kool-aid packets, featuring basically every flavor known to man. Dyeing yarn seems like the way to go. Which I will do as soon as I get around to ordering some more dyeable yarn. Hey, I have until September 15, all kinds of time!

This weekend I made a half-hearted attempt at trying out a sock pattern.

Although it might look like nearly nothing, this was in fact the beginning of Ann Budd's A Pair of Socks (the girl version) from Interweave Fall 05. (link to the pdf)

However, early on I decided this pattern with this yarn (Koigu P822, previously seen as a contender for the Chevron Scarf) ended up looking too messy. Instead of pretty ribbed socks, I went with the old standby, 2x2 ribbing.

and they're not for my sock pal. The yarn is seriously the color of antifreeze. I can't send that to someone I've never met! Besides, I kinda want to keep them...

Dude, we have until September! hehe... I'm in a bit of a rush to get them done because I have a lot of other things to knit up and worry about. It's certainly not a contest, and even if it was, we already lost because people have **finished** their Secret Sock Pal socks. So, there's no problem to make a pair for yourself first, right? ;)

Thanks for the link to the pattern - I really like it and may have to use it for my next pair of socks (I need something other than ss socks!). I love that color and can see why you want to keep them for yourself.

Oh yes, I have been eyeing that pattern. I see what you mean...the 2x2 ribbing looks fantastic in that colourway. I am really liking those colours! No rush for sure. We have till sept...come on...you can knit up your sock pals socks over a weekend. I am still practising, as you know!

Don't feel pressured, all my plans got thrown out the window over the weekend when I decided I didn't like the yarn I was planning to use. I keep telling myself that I have until September.

I'm so glad you are finally knitting up this Koigu. I've been waiting to see how it looks since you posted it in the Chevron scarf. Love them so far!

Tara:

Man, I love that yarn! It would make a rad pair of knee socks... :)

That green reminds me of some Rowan Aran Tweed the yarn store owner and I were discussing today. It was at the same time a color you loved and hated. But loved it more. It was a color that drew you in for some unknown reason, but I still decided it was just a bit to bright for a vest which is what I was purchasing the yarn for.

oh, don't worry, it's just barely july! i'm sure if you want, you can churn out a pair in a week! i do love the colorway you have for the 2X2 ribs. very nice! i love koigu!

That color is awesome! Of course you want to keep it for yourself. :)

Beautiful cuff! I love the picture of the ripping out sock among grass leaves and flowers. Everyone calls that yellow flower a "weed" but I always thought it was too beautiful to be a weed. Now I can't even remember it's name. Thanks for the link to the matching his and hers socks. My boyfriend loves socks and he never owned anything cashmere, so I think these socks are calling my name. Hmmm... seems like all socks are calling my name lately!

Cathy:

I love that color! Goes great with the grass and flowers!

Dani:

Those are going to be awesome socks! I love the picture in the grass!

That's a really great color!! And particularly nice in that pattern...
