Back or Front?
I am almost to the point where you bind off stitches for the armholes on Demi.. but then I started to wonder about it..
You know how on cable sweaters, the back is often the same as the front for ease of sizing? This is what the Demi pattern says to do. But would it look nicer if the back was simpler than the front?
Theoretically, this piece could be the front and I could do some less bobble-heavy cables on the back piece. I could repeat the side cables in the center of the back instead of the bobble diamond. This would require some figuring out. Is it worth it? It *would* be easier to proceed as planned with matching front and back pieces.
The sleeves do both have the diamond bobble patterns on them, and the bobbles aren't all that obtrusive. Though it might be more comfortable without them.
Its quite possible all the baked goods this weekend have led to overthinking. Any thoughts on this?

A bobble-less back is a good idea for comfort. I don't think it would take that much tinkering with the pattern to make it work. I might actually make the knitting go faster (and you'd for sure meet your Christmas deadline) depending on what you did. You could replace the center diamond pattern by just carrying up the ribbing from the bottom.

I like the idea of leaving the bobbles out. I think you could keep the center diamonds, and just have ribbing in their centers- sort of like the cables on the sides have ribbing between them.
It really looks beautiful!

i think ditching the bobbles for the back is a good thing. sitting on those big chunks of yarn could be uncomfortable. as for moving around the cables -- it sounds like fun. do you think you'd have the time to do it *and* meet your christmas deadline?

It would be a lot more comfortable (not to mention faster) to simplify the back, and it might look a bit more modern and cleaner. Would you and your sister do the same thing?

I think its super cute that you and your sister are knitting this :) I can totally picture the simplified back and thing it would be nice either way.

I think a simpler back would be nice, too many cables and bobbles will make the whole sweater look "busy". Sometimes when you don't get to view the full sweater in person, it can be hard to imagine what it looks like in entirety because books will only show the front or back. Good luck to the decision you make though, whatever the outcome, I'll bet it would be a gorgeous sweater all the same... just like all your knits!

I'm going to go against the grain and say that I think it would be gorgeous to have the back and front the same. That way even those standing behind you in holiday lines will be mesmerized by the beauty of your sweater. I'm sure whatever you do will turn out well!

Hmmmm. I think either way would be gorgeous, but if you want to make the back simpler, I think it would be nice if you did it the same, but without the bobbles.

I think I'm going to stick to the pattern for the back. The bobbles aren't so big that they would be uncomfortable and I love the look of the overall pattern as it is. If I were to change the back I'd probably choose to extend the "stems" to the tops of the diamonds and leave off the "flower" bobbles. I'm curious to see what you decide to do though!

i would keep them the same though... for one, you don't have to worry about wearing it backwards (ok, this is lame)... but really, it looks cuter if both sides are the same, in my eyes, that is.

That's a tough one. A simpler back would be cool...I would pause at the figuring it out.

I'd go with less or no bobbles on the back. Although bobbles for adults kind of give me the willies, so take my comment with a grain of salt.

I love the way you let us in to your thought processes as you go. So fun to read!
I agree, I think bobbles will be more interesting if they are used sparingly. It's like the colors red or yellow in quiltmaking, often less is more. Will be fun either way, for us. ;-)

I'd ditch the back bobbles. They sit right ON YOUR SPINE! ouch!
Just me...
