Deadline: Christmas

SQ has thrown down the gauntlet - Christmas is when we are aiming to finish our Demi sweaters. This way we can wear them in unison and um, swelter, because we'll be in sunny San Diego for Christmas! Maybe it will be cold enough at night...

I've got a sleeve and a half done so far and am happy to report complete chart memorization! I no longer have to reference the chart, and knitting through the back loop really seems like the only way to go. In other words, Demi has fully taken over my knitting consciousness. Its cool, no complaints.

There's been one notable error thus far: a miscrossed cable. Maybe you can see it.. its the first cross of the right cable, right next to the little blue stitch marker.

The 2-stitch side of the cable is always supposed to cross over the 1-stitch side. I reversed it by accident, and noticed it pretty much right away. I thought it was kinda cute though. 10 rows later, its cuteness wore off, and it had to go! I dropped down the stitches and recrossed the cable without undoing all the rows. That area is a little loose now, but I am the only one who knows.

The sweater looks great.
Good luck with the Christmas deadline.

Looks great so far! Pattern memorization is definitely one of the keys to a speedier knit.

so so so pretty!! i want one, too. good luck at meeting the xmas deadline, you and your sister rock!

Elli:

The competitive knitter in me wants to join you guys, but I think it would be better for my other Christmas knitting if I sit this one out. Maybe I'll aim for New Years. Good luck!

lyn:

The sleeves are looking good! Love the colour you're using too :)

It is going to be sooo beautiful... I can't wait until you finish it! I too wanted to start it but I have way too much stash and other projects to knit - maybe next year.

looking good!

i miscrossed a cable working on my shedir cap, and while i think i knew deep down that no one would ever notice... the knowledge of that little imperfection drove me crazy. i had to fix it for the sake of my sanity the rest of the way through. funny.

Demi looks great! You and SQ are certainly ambitious!

That sleeve looks fabulous. I'm meeting up with knitters in l.a. 12/18. Will you be in CA then?

Oh, you will totally finish by Christmas. Although your sister, she's a fast one.

It looks *so* good! Congrats! You've come far.

MJ:

There are times to leave mistakes alone (like in lace, 20 rows done) and when to frog them, as in your case. I would've done the same!

Good call on fixing the mis-crossed cable. Thank goodness you noticed it before you were too far into the piece! :)

Di:

I agree- nobody will notice a little loose bit where you've tinked a stitch or three. This is just between you and your few hundred loyal blog readers. :)

It's scary how close it is, huh? I'm sure the tension will straighten out once it's washed and blocked. You a champ for correcting it without frogging it all!

Isn't dropping a stitch to fix something a few rows down the best thing ever?!

TrevorKane:

I have been SO cold in San Diego. Don't believe the Chanmber of Commerce hype that the weather there is always wonderful. Take your lovely sweater there, and enjoy wearing it!
