Finishing and starting

Thanks for all your scarf suggestions! I decided that thick/thin varigated yarn has enough going on without adding a stitch pattern to the mix. There is too much creativity already in that skein.. its overkill to try to do more. So I ended up doing a lengthwise garter scarf a la The Yarn Harlot.

The cast-on and cast-off rows are worked with the ggh soft kid. Yes, soft kid is a serious pain to unknit. It requires constant supervision. I only unknitted the ties of my Rebecca wrap so far. Someday I'll undo the rest.

In other knitwear news, I am becoming an expert in earflap hats. The purple one is for my half-sister, Ashley, and the red one is for my friend (and previous hand sock recipient) Karen.

The red is one of my new favorite yarns, Alpaca with a Twist Landscapes. It took 2 skeins for an 84 stitch hat on size 6 needles. Thanks Jared for the hat inspiration. I want to knit all sorts of hats after reading this post.

Less than a week until christmas, and the secret santa plans are in limbo.. do I have time to knit up unplanned gifts for the fam?? and meet work deadlines?? stay tuned...

Ah, good choice on the scarf. It looks so... organic. Beautiful. And I love your earflap hats! So fun. The recipients will be so happy. :)

The hats look very nice, as does the scarf. I'm looking forward to your updates on your planned gifts!

isn't lengthwise garter fun and a breeze. nice touch with the soft kid.

Wow! The scarf turned out great (have been looking through since a couple of days)!! The beanies/hats look amazing, too!

I've just came home from a Stitch N Bitch session...I'm a beginnger and am making a very good progress on a Christmas scarf right now. I'm wanting to make a quick scarf for myself with the lengthwise garter technique (gotta go and get a pair of those long round needles tomorrow)...thing is I don't think that bulgy yarns are for men. Oh, well, I'll have to see.

I also want to learn how to make beanies...but I think I'll stick to scarves at the moment *LOL*

jared's post totally inspired me too! (except inspiration + approximately 10 minutes of daily free time doesn't go much of anywhere) are those modified kittyville hats like his malabrigo hat?

I really like both the hats and the scarf! Glad that you figured out a pattern that worked.

Oooh, I love that. The yarn really makes the scarf - beautiful!

Good call to nix the stitch pattern. The scarf looks great in garter.

fabulous! love the hats!

di:

the garter stitch scarf is beautiful! Perfect way to show of the yarn texture and colours.

I love those earflap hats. Did you also use a modified Kittyville pattern?

Stephanie:

Perfect pattern choice for the scarf - the yarn looks fabulous. And the hats - they're great. I love the pattern and the colors.

erin:

The scarf looks gorgeous, I love how the 2 muted colours go together. Cute earflap hats too.

The scarf turned out great! I like the cast on and bind off idea, it's never occurred to me to do it that way and it makes the scarf look so clean.

The hats are adorable. The hand dyed yarn came out really nicely.

Aaaah, so cute! Everything is awesome.

What a beautiful scarf! And the hats are just perfect. All this hat-goodness makes me want to start a hat!

looks lovely as is!
and of course wish you the best on the ripping bits :)

Your scarf came out fabulous! And I just love the cast-on edges, they added that perfect extra touch! What a great idea.
Good luck finishing all your projects - isn't that just the way, that as soon as you finish one, another one pops into your head to begin?!

I am astonished by this scarf, I wouldn't have imagine that this miw would be so successfull. Congratulations! Merry Christmas,
Fleur

MJ:

Cool scarf! The colors look similar to my garter stitch scarf that I did recently. Your choice of a simple stitch is the best way to showcase the thick-and-thin of the yarn.

Love the scarf and the hats. The colors in the scarf are beautiful. I am still rushing to finish some Chanukah presents and this may just do the trick.

Love the scarf and the hats! A simple stitch was perfect for that yarn - really shows off the thick/thin and color variation. :-)

omg, that scarf turned out great! scrumptuous!

karen:

ok - i know such a limited amount about knitting, but i have to say: the red hat, of which i was a recipient, is super warm and unbelievably soft - i am so excited to wear it out on the town!

I love your hats - they are super-gorgeous, especially the red one! xx
